Reading and voice
No online child account, email address, date of birth, school, photograph or location is requested. Parents can create local reader profiles using an avatar and nickname, with a default such as Reader 1. Full names are not needed. Nicknames are private profile labels, not login credentials. The app has no advertising, social sharing, analytics SDK or developer-operated learning-data server. Letter practice uses buttons inside the app, without opening a third-party keyboard. Sticker search also uses these buttons. Parents may use their device keyboard when editing a nickname; its settings and provider are controlled outside this app.
Voice practice is selected by default when no voice preference has been saved. Saved parent choices to turn voice off are preserved. Android microphone permission is requested when you first tap the mic; the microphone does not open automatically. A grown-up can switch to letter practice in Parents > Privacy & learning data. Voice recognition uses Android's on-device recognition API on supported Android 12 or newer devices. Unsupported devices, unavailable models and recognition failures can use letter practice; the app has no cloud speech fallback. Recognition is temporary. The app does not store audio or speech transcripts. It clears recognised text when leaving the turn or stopping audio. The microphone stops when the app goes into the background. Voice and letter practice both earn stickers on completion, regardless of score.
Audio hints are recordings packaged with the app. No text-to-speech service is used for these hints.
Learning records on this device
Each local reader profile has separate word sets, practice dates, levels, word outcomes, retries, session duration, input mode, awards, earned stickers, board positions and practice settings. The app stores a nickname, built-in avatar choice and randomly generated local profile identifier. Profile identifiers and learning records are not sent to the developer, Google Play Billing, analytics services or advertising services. There is no cross-device learning account or automatic profile synchronisation. Existing learning records are preserved in Reader 1 when profiles are introduced. These records remain in private app storage until a parent deletes them or Android clears the app's storage/uninstalls it. The free dashboard's seven-day view is a display limit, not a deletion schedule. Free supports up to two readers; Premium supports unlimited readers in this installation. If Premium ends, all profiles and their data remain saved, and parents can choose which two readers use the free practice slots. Privacy export and deletion controls remain available for every profile without Premium. One Google Play subscription enables Premium for every profile in the same app installation; this does not provide automatic Google Play Family Library sharing.
The reader picker is available to anyone using this device. Profiles separate progress but are not password-protected accounts or a security boundary between siblings. Parent management and history controls use the existing parent navigation gate. A device screen lock helps protect access to the installation.
This version disables Android app backup and explicitly excludes app storage from cloud backup and device transfers. These settings do not erase backups made by older versions. Parents should manage any older backups with their backup provider. We cannot guarantee behaviour of modified devices or tools outside Android's standard backup system.
Parent controls and copies
Parents > Manage readers lets parents add, rename, choose avatars for and delete profiles. Deleting a profile removes its nickname, avatar, word set, history, awards, stickers and settings; other profiles remain. At least one profile is kept for practice. Parents > Privacy & learning data provides complete JSON exports for the current reader or all readers, including nicknames, avatars and older history. Delete this reader's learning data removes their word set, history, awards, stickers and settings but keeps the nickname and avatar. Delete all learning data removes every profile and its learning records and creates an empty Reader 1 with voice off. Clear practice history in the dashboard affects only the selected reader and keeps their stickers. Parents can turn voice off for the selected reader at any time and revoke microphone permission in Android settings for the whole app.
An export is created only after a parent chooses a destination in Android's file picker. Choosing a cloud provider sends that copy to the provider. Exported copies are outside the app's control: remove them separately. No copy of the export is retained by the app. Full deletion does not cancel a subscription or remove reviewer access. Google Play purchase records must be managed with Google Play.
Parent purchases
Optional subscriptions use Google Play Billing. The app reads purchase status, product identifiers and purchase tokens and acknowledges purchases through Google Play to enable paid features. It does not receive payment-card details or send learning records with purchases. Billing is first contacted when the parent area opens; it can refresh an existing billing connection afterwards. Google controls its account, payment and service records under its own terms and privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). The app does not set Google retention periods. There is no child purchase account inside this app. Reviewer access is a locally stored signed entitlement, not a child profile; it is excluded from backup and can be removed in the Premium screen.
Privacy requests
You can view, export and delete the learning information directly on the device. We do not have a server copy to retrieve or erase remotely. For other privacy requests, contact morganmhughes@gmail.com. Do not send a child's recordings, passwords, payment-card details or identification documents. If you email us, your email service and our email provider process the correspondence. Share only what is needed for the request. Any applicable access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability or consent-withdrawal rights can be raised through that contact; you may also contact the relevant privacy regulator. Requests may require proportionate verification. The parent navigation question is not identity verification or verifiable parental consent.
Changes
This notice describes the current app. Versions 1.5.0-1.5.4 initially selected letter practice. Earlier releases used the device-selected speech recogniser and allowed backups. Installing this version cannot erase data already held by an earlier provider. Contact privacy support for help identifying the relevant provider. New network speech, analytics or child-data sharing requires a fresh privacy review before release.
